Hope's Sustainability Journey Begins

At Hope Academy Newton we have chosen sustainability as our specialism and we want to expand sustainable development in three areas: the campus, curriculum and community. We have started this blog to track and update any developments during the Academy's sustainable journey. The blog was started nearly nine months into the Academy's first academic year, so there is plenty the Academy has already achieved, although there is still plenty more we can do to teach sustainable development (SD) and help students become global conscious citizens.

Recent work -

We attended the SEEd policy forum (26 April 2012).

Liverpool World Centre (LWC) visited the Academy during an INSET (4 May 2012). Staff looked at defining sustainability in the context of our Academy as well as exploring ways to cultivate care.  The next steps from the INSET is to create links with teaching and learning, feedback to staff how we care for one self, each other and the planet, and to define sustainability within the school context. We will audit where the 7 key concepts of SD link into each department's curriculum and develop this.
